So please put this date in your diary and come along and have a pleasant afternoon with friends.

I am writing to you on behalf of Nether Heyford Pre-school regarding the local Community Grant scheme.

Our group is providing high quality childcare for children between the ages of two and four years. We work within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is play based. The curriculum is broken down into areas of learning.

We are looking for some funding to help us purchase some resources to help the children further develop their knowledge in the area of communication, language and literacy. Speech and language is an integral part of all children’s learning and development.

  • Talking Tubes telephone exchange – this activity encourages groups of children to work together to develop their communication skills through play.  Children often make telephones out of junk modelling to use outside; however, they break easily and can only be used once.  This kit encourages children to communicate in groups developing personal and social skills.  Cost £49.
  • Big Books - these books can be used for group time and individual work. A set of five is around £ 55.00. The books come in large print and children can see and access other languages using these books.

We provide vital learning to children in our local community, our group is a registered charity managed and run by a hard working committee of volunteers.

On behalf of the staff, children and management committee of Nether Heyford Preschool thank you for considering our request.

If you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact preschool on info@netherheyfordpreschool.co.uk

Many Thanks

Community Grant Scheme

The first Community Grant has been awarded to The Crafty Club
“Nearly four years ago a couple of my friends and I were talking and they said that a cross-stitch club they had been going to in Brackley was proving too far to travel for the time spent in the club.  So between us we decided to start one in Nether Heyford.  Originally there were only 9 members and it was held in the local Hairdressing Salon (which was closed on Mondays) with most of the nine ladies doing either cross-stitch or knitting/crocheting.

Since then we have grown in numbers, and currently most Mondays we have approximately 18+ ladies at the “Crafty Club” which is held in the Baptist Rooms.  Amongst the skills we have cross-stitching, crocheting, painting, quilt making, bobbin-lace making to name a few.  At this time of year, I (as sort-of elected leader of the pack), run a “Christmas Craft Workshop” lasting approximately 12 weeks where the ladies make Christmas Cards/Ornaments etc.  Some of the ladies have never tried making their own Christmas “bits” and so the workshops are quite popular.  We also hold a Christmas Party each year, with a full Christmas Lunch & sing-song.

Hence one of the reasons for writing this to you.

As there is only a limited number of “large” tables available in the Church Rooms, and with the ever-increasing popularity of the club, we are finding it more and more difficult to accommodate everyone in the group around tables, and therefore wondered if the scheme would be willing to purchase two long/large tables for us and no doubt other users of the Church Rooms will be able to make use of them as well.

I have been able to ascertain that the tables we would be interested in are from a firm called GoPak and Mr Thackeray has very kindly lent me a catalogue.  The size of table would be 27″ x 48″ in the economy range and they are priced at £65.67 each.  Should we be lucky enough to win the £100 community grant, the Crafty Club members are more than willing to “make up the difference”.  I have also obtained permission to store them in the Baptist Church Rooms.”
