Class 1 6 Runner Beans – any one variety
All 6 beans should be identical in size and displayed on a paper plate. You should not be able to feel really large bean (seeds) inside the pod.
Class 2 3 Onions – any one variety
The tops should be neatened off by tying or using rubber bands. Best displayed on a plate of sand.
Class 3 4 Tomatoes – any one variety
Evenly matched fruit with a smooth, round profile, displayed on a paper plate
Class 4 4 potatoes – any one variety
Should be cleaned but not scrubbed. Display on a paper plate
Class 5 A plate of 3 cooking apples – any one variety
Class 6 A plate of 3 dessert apples – any one variety
Stalks should be left in place if possible. Do not polish skins. Name the variety of fruit if you can. Display on a paper plate
Class 7 2 cobs of sweetcorn – displayed on a paper plate
Stalks should be trimmed and husks removed. Display on a paper plate
Class 8 2 courgettes – displayed on a paper plate
Should be between 4” (10cm) and 6” (15cm). Display on a paper plate.
Class 9 1 squash – any variety
Display on a paper plate.
Class 10 A collection of 5 different vegetables
A good selection that is well presented on a paper plate
Class 11 A collection of 6 different cut herbs
A good selection that is well presented in or on any container
Class 12 A plate of 10 soft fruit – any one variety
Class 13 A plate of stoned fruit – any one variety
Simply presented – leave the bloom on.
Class 14 3 dahlias – mixed or same variety
Presented simply in a plain vase, usually with reasonably long stems
Class 15 A vase of mixed perennials
Presented simply in a plain vase, usually with reasonably long stems
Class 16 A flowering pot plant – 6” diameter pot
Quality and health of plant are crucial.
Class 17 A spray of shrubs displayed in an unusual container
Emphasis should be on plant material rather than accessories used.
Class 18 1 photograph of flowers, veg or any other horticultural topic
Mounted on card with a border. Include where and when the photo was taken.
Class 19 Produce from your garden or allotment
Jam/Jelly b) Pickle/Chutney
Label the jars and be prepared for them to be opened and tasted.
Class 20 1 homemade loaf of bread – any variety
Entries will be tasted! Breadmakers are allowed
All entries must be grown or produced by the entrant.
Entry fees – 10p per entry
Prizes – 1st £1
2nd 75p
3rd 50p
A trophy will be awarded to the entrant who gains the most points, so the more categories you enter (even if you don’t win an individual category) could result in your becoming the overall champion of the show!
